About Us

Mari & Darren have been residents of San Luis Obispo County for many years. Mari's family moved to Los Osos in the early 1970's. She attended Sunny Side Elementary School, Los Osos Middle School, Morro Bay High School & Cuesta College. Darren is from Ventura County & moved here after high school in early 1980's to attend Cuesta College where he & Mari first met.
We have raised two sons living mostly in Los Osos. We lived in San Luis Obispo for a few short years before moving back to Los Osos. We have both been involved in community activities including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, T-Ball, & other activities. Mari facilitated parenting classes for San Luis Obispo Student Services. We have always supported the activities & groups that our kids were involved with to the best of our ability. Our youngest son Randal is in his final year at Morro Bay High School. Our oldest son Kyle just finished Cuesta College and is looking for the next great campus to learn on. Both of our sons work at our restaurants and are an enormous help. Our niece Kayla also works at our Los Osos Subway & is attending Cuesta College (also a big helper).
We have always loved Subway sandwiches & often thought it would be good to own a Subway restaurant. In March of 2003 we purchased Laguna Village Subway in San Luis Obispo. We both worked very hard to turn the restaurant around focusing on customer service, speed, & of course fresh food. In March of 2005 Mari went to work at San Luis Farm Supply in San Luis Obispo. Farm Supply has been able to supply us with much needed stability for our family. We appreciate Farm Supply very much.
2005 was a year of many changes for us. In addition to Mari going to work at Farm Supply we had an opportunity to purchase the Subway on Broad St. in San Luis Obispo. While we were in escrow on that location, we were approached by John who owned the Los Osos Subway about purchasing that location as well. While it was difficult, we were able to purchase both locations in 2006 (within 2 weeks of one another). We worked hard at operating all 3 for about a year when Darren decided that the work load was taking too much time away from the family. In late 2007 we sold the location on Broad St. keeping the other two.
We have been fortunate to have great family, neighbors & members of each community that support us and our businesses. Our guests are more than just customers, they are our business partners always telling us when things are going good or needing improvement. Our favorite part of owning Subway (other than the awesome food) is the interaction we are fortunate to have with our guests. This is truly a wonderful place to live!
